Don't buy
First one arrived damaged, second one arrived with minor damage and a missing part. Started squeeking when popping up or down and now it's stuck in the up position.
Only bought this because of the option of a side extraction but now have to get an engineer out and it's only 2 years old.

Draft extractor
The height of this appliance is sufficient to still see beyond it. I have it fitted on my kitchen island and when guests are round do 'theatre' style cooking. It's quite noisy though! I like the indicator reminder to clean the oil filters. Considering I hardly use oils this reminder comes up regularly therefore showing how well it filters. The buttons are somewhat difficult to see as on the top of the using and when it's light is on it blocks my vision to see the button. (May be a height issue although I'm average 5'6"! It's relatively easy to clean. I wipe the front glass after every use and let it all cool down before pushing button to close it! It doesn't suck the steam/smoke as well from the front area of the hob but is great for the areas closer to the vent. It's a pricey bit of equipment but looks nice and iprovents splashes from going all over my island.

Game changer l!!
We have just done an open plan kitchen with island and were reluctant to block the light we had just created with a ceiling extractor fan. We came across this by chance and we absolutely love it ! Only downside is that it takes up some cupboard space but we don't mind.... easy to clean especially with busy family life .... thumbs up from us

Problematic !!
Many times it fails to come up or down and you have to get to te main plug and unplug it for 10 minutes or so to re set it. This involves getting behind drawers so not an easy job.
The other problem is cleaning the control panel. because when you try to clean/polish it this involves the mechanism operating. There should be some kind of kids lock so you can isolate it whilst you clean it

Poor appliance
Although it fits conveniently into the island worktop it is temperamental to rise and over sensitive when wiping dust iff. The light is at my eye level so blinds me when in use so I end up turning it off. So it can go and down just when I wipe oil splashes/dust from it. The steam doesn't reach the extractor from front rings so anything producing steam/smoke needs to be at the rear closest to the extractor. The grill filters are a nightmare to clean even if soaked for hours. I wish I hadn't bought this appliance and gone for a cheaper more efficiently piece of equipment. The 'paper' flue fitted by the builder (not NEFF) frequently blows holes in it.

Average
Had to have the engineers out twice at the beginning as it stopped working. Not very effective in reducing smells and is very noisy. Looks nice though.

Very sleek but not very efficient
Looks fabulous and works well but is a bit noisy and is not that efficient. It is on an island and we were aware it would not be as good as an overhead one but even so it is disappointing

Stylish but
We opted for this on aesthetic grounds even although it was not to be installed in a kitchen island. It is neat and unobtrusive because easily retracted BUT
(a) markings on control panel are hard to see
(b) inbuilt light dazzles rather than illuminates and cannot be permanently switched off if the power button is operated
(c) power setting 1 produces a gently draught however all other power settings produce a gale: there is no appreciable difference between the effect of setting 2, 3, P1 or P2
(d) [worst of all] none of the settings are wholly effective at extracting steam/fumes fro cooking on the hob. Steam can be clearly seen rising above the extractor and so presumably does grease vapour.
This unit has its place on an island but we regret our choice.
