Use reducer couplings to connect drainage pipes of differing types, while drain couplings, or plumbing coupling, will connect two pipes of the same or similar diameters. You will also find standard couplings, also known as shear banded couplings, that are specifically designed to connect adopted drainage and sewer pipes, especially if needing to connect to water company assets, and complies to Water Industry Specification WIS 4-41-01.
