A splashback is a panel or tiled section fixed to the wall behind a hob, sink or kitchen worktop. On kitchen and worktop jobs, the main checks are compatibility with the wall surface, the fixing method and the finish.

Typical uses

• Kitchen cooking areas: When you want a smooth panel behind a hob or cooker for easy clean up after cooking.

• Utility rooms and laundry rooms: Protecting work areas against damp, laundry detergent spills and general wear. 

• Sinks and wet areas: Providing a waterproof, mould-resistant barrier behind taps, preparation sinks, and draining areas. 

• Commercial kitchens and canteens: Delivering durable, hygienic and easy-to-sanitise wall linings across food preparation areas. 

How to choose the right splashback

• Heat source proximity: Toughened safety glass, stainless steel and aluminium is ideal behind open gas flames or electric hobs. Standard acrylic and laminate panels are ideal for sink runs and surrounding walls, but require adequate clearance from open flame heat sources.

• Material: Laminate and acrylic splashbacks can be trimmed and cut around plug sockets using standard woodworking tools on site. Toughened glass panels cannot be cut or drilled after manufacture and must be ordered to exact dimensions.

• Aesthetics: Match laminate splashbacks with your chosen worktops for a unified, seamless look, or opt for coloured glass or metallic finishes to create a striking contrast feature.

Before you order

• Confirm the panel size, thickness and any cut-outs against the measured opening.

• Make sure the wall is ready for the chosen fixing method and ensure it is plumb, flat, sound, and dry before fitting to avoid visible bowing or joint gaps.

• Allow for wastage and any trims or finishing details needed to complete the fit neatly.
