I have had the solar option single layer light filtering skylights and blinds for over two years. The blinds block out much of the visible light and seems like it blocks out a lot of the infrared radiation that causes the internal heat rise. I picked a fairly dark color knowing that that would work better for blocking some of the solar rays. I got blue which is the shade of the bright sky in the winter. The room is definitely a lot cooler when they are closed. They have been working well with the controller.

Works with Home Automation (using KLF200)
Just installed a Solar powered Light Filtering Skylight blind for my bathroom, and along with it I purchased a KLF 200 gateway controller.
The installation was pretty simple except for inserting the side rails into the head unit which was tricky. Called support and they walked me through how to "flex" the head unit just enough to get the rail's gear track inserted with the gearing without forcing it (Thanks!). After installation, I had to make one slight adjustment so that the left and right sides were parallel and it was very easy. It's movement is nice and smooth.
I use the KLF-200 with my home automation system to control the blinds. This was an important factor for me. I can set up to open the blinds in the morning and close them when the sun gets high in the sky, and open them back up late in the day. I can still use the keypad that came with the blinds to control it if needed.
The only "con" I have is that when fully extended, the single pleat is rather sheer and let's more sunlight in than I desire. Prior to purchase, I had looked at one of their pictures on the website which shows the blind blocking enough light that only a low light shadow was cast on the wall and that's what I wanted. With the blind a little more than half-open that's what I get (and what the picture showed), but it is when it is fully extended that it lets a lot of light in. I will be getting more of these, but will be going with the Blackout blinds. For comparison, I have since found out that the light filtering filters out around 39% versus 99% for the Blackout. If I had my wish, I would get light filtering with double pleats or something that filters around 66% to 75% (at which point I would give it 5 stars!) but don't see that such is offered.

Helpful company!
Velux representatives have been generous and helpful. I'm very happy with both the support and the product itself. Check out samples at a place that carries Velux if you're unsure of which color to choose. We are enjoying the lack of glare and reduced heat! Great product!
