You should think really carefully before you use these rather than timber.
The only good thing about them is the durability.
Other than that they are not straight and bend uncontrollably in the sun, produce lots of unpleasant swarf, are 3 times as heavy as timber, 3 times as expensive and need predrilling and I suspect are very unsustainable.
Merchant Response Dear Tim, many thanks for taking the time to review the Cladco Recycled Plastic Joists you recently purchased. Our customer's experience with products is of paramount importance and allows us to delve into the usability and practicality of the products we stock.
The Cladco Recycled Plastic Joists are made from 100% recycled plastic, using shredded down post-consumer plastic which is melted and formed into moulds. This also makes the product recyclable, so reducing waste going into landfill from production to end of life.
Unfortunately, these joists for decking won't be pre-drilled due to the probable need to cut them to size, making pre-drilled holes redundant, as you're likely to find with any type of joist. I hope these answer your questions and look forward to helping you on your next project.
Kind regards, the Travis Perkins Team

Ronseal 10 Year Woodstain offers the best protection against the weather, leaving exterior wood looking great for 10 years. It’s really easy to apply and there’s no need for a basecoat or primer so you can paint straight away, leaving doors and windows looking great year after year after year.
To prepare stained or varnished wood, wrap 120 grit sandpaper around a block and sand the surface of the door or window to remove old finishes. It will also smooth out the surface and provide a key for the Woodstain to stick to. Use white spirit and a cloth to clean down the surface and remove any excess dust. To prepare new wood, lightly sand the door or window to even out any imperfections. Wipe down with white spirit and leave it to dry. If you’re treating veneer, follow the supplier’s guidelines.
Give the tin a good stir to make sure the colour pigment is thoroughly mixed. Test the Woodstain on a small patch to make sure you’re happy with the colour. If you are, use a brush to apply the Woodstain in the direction of the grain. Wait four hours for the first coat to dry before applying the second. Leave the second coat to dry for four hours. You need three coats for the best finish. Before you apply the third coat, lightly sand the wood to help the stain stick for a smoother finish. Apply the third coat and that’s it! You’ll need to wait 12 hours for the third coat to dry completely but it will be rainproof in just one.
