How to choose the right fire door hinge

• Fire rating (FD30 vs. FD60): Choose 3-inch or 4-inch Grade 11/13 hinges for 30-minute (FD30) fire doors. Select heavy-duty 4-inch Grade 13 stainless steel hinges for 60-minute (FD60) installations.

• Intumescent protection pads: Always fit pre-cut intumescent hinge pads behind all hinges during installation to seal timber mortises and prevent heat transfer through the fixings.

• Weight capacity and quantity: Install a minimum of three fire-rated hinges per door leaf to distribute weight evenly, resist warping, and satisfy building regulations for self-closing fire doors.

Before placing your order, check your fire door leaf weight and thickness (typically 44mm for FD30 or 54mm for FD60) to select the correct hinge grade. Stock up on intumescent hinge pads, fire door closers, intumescent frame seals, and fire door handles to complete your certified installation.
