Great suction but the rest of the design is really poor
I've had this extraction unit now for 6 months so I think I am in a position to give a useful review on it after many projects.
The short version is no, I would not recommend this. Its poorly designed and at the same time, expensive.
The good points
- The suction is powerful
- The dual filter system is great, it never clogs up
- You get a floor vacuum set unlike other brands
- You get two hoses for different uses
Now the bad points
- The three wheel design makes it unstable and want to topple over if the ground is less than perfectly smooth
- There is no storage for all the attachments, the hoses, the cord, etc. This is ridiculous for a machine at this price ... I would expect this kind of annoyance with a Henry.
- The storage there is, doesn't work well, and the manual is just plain incorrect.
- You don't get adapters needed for Makita tools - and now I have more little plastic bits to put nowhere
- The metal pipes for the floor vac don't stay together and just fall apart during use
- The alarm is infuriating... it goes off when I am vacuuming the floor and it doesn't matter what speed to set the suction to, it goes off. There is no way to disable it when you don't need it.
- The rubber blanking cap will for sure break after I've put it in and out a few more times
- Its heavy
- The hose / cable clips are poorly designed an annoying.
- The bags are hard to dismount without getting dust everywhere - Festool system is much better
- The cable and hoses are shorter than the competition (see Festool again)
- The 28mm hose has a tendency to fall off as its just screwed into the hose... again, a really cheap design. See the rotating cuff on the end of a Festool hose.
Merchant Response Dear Rad, many thanks for taking the time to review the Makita Corded Dust Extractor - this will be very useful for anyone considering buying a vacuum cleaner. As this product comes with a 1-year guarantee you should be able to return the product to Makita for a refund or perhaps a replacement (a better model!). No doubt they would also be grateful for some feedback on the design / features of this dust extractor so they can make some improvements in the future.
Kind regards, Travis Perkins Team
