Sun Tunnel Trim Ring

We bought a house that had a Velux Sun Tunnel already installed in an upstairs hallway. It's nice to have the light but bugs get into it somehow. So we end up with unsightly dead bugs showing through the diffuser. To clean them out we have to remove the trim ring and the diffuser. The trim ring is cheaply made and difficult to remove and replace.

Way Too Bright

What are the options for capping/covering and/or removing the suntunnel altogether? Is there any way to deconstruct the internal workings of the sun tunnel and make it more like a sky light? In other words, keep the bright light closer to the roof and not project it down to the ceiling? I have mine covered with cut-up garbage bags and construction paper until I hear back from my installer. We totally overdid it.

Perhaps a VELUX Daylight Controller is the answer. It would allow as much or as little light into your living space and is installed in between the rigid tubing sections. Please call VELUX Customer Service @ 1-800-888-3589 to help you determine the best option.

Homemade Diffuser

I had three Sun Tunnels installed - two in the great room & one in my master bath. The one in the bath lets in so much light that I don't have to turn on a light during the day. One of the great room ones is over my tv & caused glare during the day. So I made a "diffuser" by cutting a circle from a white fiber mailing envelope & putting it in the lens. It filters the light & worked great.

I just got my sun tunnel small living room and put 2 14" tunnels in . I used the diffuser that cane with the kit. The room is still dark is there any other diffuser I can get that will make room brighter . Where can I buy a brighter diffuser? Thank you

Thank you for your review. VELUX has optional diffusers available beyond the stock one that will be included with your Sun Tunnel kit. These are more of an aesthetics change versus an improved lighting output. The TGF/TMF 014 Sun Tunnels use a flexible tubing and will have an approximate light output of 80 watts per system. If the tubing was changed to the rigid style, this would increase to almost 300 watts. (based on a 40 degree sun angle) This exchange would give you the increased light output you are looking for.

Love my Sun Tunnel

When I was replacing roofs, I purchased a total of 4 of these for 2 of my houses. The roofers did the roof part and I installed the inside myself. As a female I found it incredibly easy, but I am a diy girl. In my house, my kitchen is now bright and beautiful. My living room, well it was my placement of it that i wish i would have changed, because of my attic walking space, but it still gives a lot of light into the dark side of my living room. We hardly turn on any lights now. At my other house we are coming down to the 1st floor, but wish there was an add on or small section that could be added to the tunnel itself to add just a bit of light to the hallway upstairs. The tube will be covered, not visible but would love to have just a small bit of that natural light to come thru there as well. Love my lights

Great Light but how do i remove debris from tube

I've had great experiences with your product but I now have debris in the tube and I have a very simplified that shows how to remove the "beauty ring" but not the difuser.

Good light, poor reveal

Had a new rigid tunnel installed along with roof a few weeks ago. The sun tunnel adds a much needed influx of natural light to my livingroom but as many other reviews note the diffuser ring inside looks very cheap and has screws visible through it. Most of the pictures I had seen before getting it showed a white trim ring that sits flush to the ceiling and covers all of the hardware underneath, this one is nothing but clear plastic that all of the mounting hardware is visible through and it sits up off the ceiling creating a bit of a halo effect around it. I'm happy to have the light in my room but wish it looked more clean and professional on the interior.

Love the light, hate the trim (cheap)

Love the extra light that it brings in, but like the other reviews, not a fan of the clear trim (screws showing). Our twinhome association purchased 9 of the 14" rigid tunnels in 2019 , was hoping for a more finished look on the ceiling.

Adds fantastic amount of light!

I had threesun tunnels installed in dark areas of my house, which really brightened everything up. However, the bright white light really was not the look of my home. The contractor changed out the diffusers to "amber", which helped a lot, but one area is still much too bright. Can two diffuser lenses be used in the tube without creating heat? Or is there enough space in the tube to do so? If it is possible, which diffuser lens would you suggest to use with the amber presently in place, to give a soft amber glow?
