This was very sandy, and as far as sand is concerned, sharp. It was also bulky, and came in a bag so it was just as described. It was very heavy though and I put my back out moving it so if you could send me a lighter tonne of sand next time that would be great!

Weight
800 kg per bag (may varies slightly with natural moisture content.)
Colour
Plum / Deep Purple
Coverage
Approximately 10m2 per bag at a standard depth of 50mm.
Usage
Primarily used for decorative horticultural landscaping, 40mm slate's flat, interlocking surface makes it ideal for footpaths and walkways, offering a smoother, more navigable surface than rounded gravel. It is also commonly used for garden bed edging, mulching (with ground membrane to boost moisture retention and suppress weeds), building rockeries, and defining paved patios.
MOT Type 1 has crushed gravel stones that form the granular sublayer for road surfaces and pathways. Hardwearing, this gravel provides a load bearing stable layer and a flat surface prior to laying paving or hard standing areas. The fine mixture also ensures minimal voids in the sublayer when compacted.
Colour
Varies Regionally
Coverage
At 50mm depth: about 0.25 - 0.3 m2 per trade pack.
At 100mm (standard patio base): approximately 0.12 - 0.15 m2 per trade pack.
Usage
Used to create a high-strength, load-bearing foundation on small-scale or patchwork projects. When compacted, the interlocking stones and dust form an ultra-dense, stable sub-base. Ideal for small patios, garden paths, shed bases, block paving repairs, and fence posts.
Our 20mm Green Slate Chippings are recycled in the UK from the roofing industry. The vibrant green colour adds brightness and a touch of elegance to any garden. The flat, angular stones provide a contemporary, stylish finish while helping to retain moisture in borders and planters, yet still allowing water to reach plants and wildlife. As a naturally quarried product, slight variations in size, shape, colour, and formation may occur, including natural red-toned veins.
